I've had a problem with dead batteries for a long time. I run a small service and installation company that travels the state 9 months out of the year. We have 7 trucks on the road, each with 3-4 cordless drills, saws, and grinders. Most of our tools are Dewalt, Skil, Makita, and Ryobi.

Every year at least 2 batteries need to be replaced in every truck. Those batteries cost $30-$80 to replace. Multiply that 2 by 7 and you see why I needed a way to re-condition or revive all these batteries.

I asked an electrician friend to help me create a way to get more life out of my rechargeable batteries my employees had burned through. I knew there had to be a way. Well, after about 40 hours of dismantling and researching nickel cadmuim batteries. What we've come up with is actually a very easy fix. It only requires about 10 minutes to perform, and believe it or not, in most cases there is no dismantling of the battery pack. I do however include instructions in this guide on repairing each individual cell if you have a severly damaged battery.
